This guide provides a large number of helpful articles, grouped into sections, to help answer questions you may have about dehumidifiers, home humidity, and related.
What is a dehumidifier?
Dehumidifiers are essentially a version of air conditioning that uses the property of cooling to extract moisture from the ambient air and reduce the overall humidity. They’re beneficial for a number of reasons which include comfort, health, preventing mold or mildew growth, dust mite populations, and preventing the effects of high humidity on materials.
Typical dehumidifiers use an electronic control system to maintain an approximate set humidity level and a water tank to capture moisture that has collected after removal from the air. In most models a refrigeration system driven by an electrically-powered compressor is used.
